Description
Job Corps is a federally funded program that helps young people ages 16–24 gain independence and employment opportunities through education and vocational training. The program is run by the U.S. Department of Labor and has been operating since 1964. Job Corps offers a range of services, including:
Academic education
Students can earn a high school diploma or high school equivalency credential through partnerships with local school districts
Vocational training
Students can train in more than 100 career areas and earn industry-recognized credentials
Residential living
Students live at Job Corps centers while participating in the program
Health care
Students receive basic medical care while in the program
Counseling and mentoring
Students receive counseling and mentoring services while in the program, and career counseling and transitional support for up to 12 months after graduation
Job Placement Assistance
Students receive assistance with obtaining employment
Job Corps also has a zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol and other drugs, and students are drug tested when they join the program.
