46218 has been labeled as high crime area, a food desert, one of the highest social determinates of health in Marion County, one of the top ten neighborhood in domestic violence, and research studies have shown that the life expectancy from birth is 68 years which is the lowest out of 104 counties. These statistics are alarming. Through prevention funding MLT will reduce risk factors and increase protective factors. MLT’s is a nonprofit, grassroots 501c3 organization whose diverse team is knowledgeable of ACES and understands the vulnerabilities of trauma survivors. Our highly skilled trauma informed team collectively has over 60 years of experience providing direct care to youth that our homeless / or have experienced homelessness, and food insecurities, been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, SED, ODD, Conduct disorder, involved in the judicial system,suicidal and sexually maladaptive behaviors. Through strong collaborations with schools, health providers, youth, and their families our multi-layer approach continues to yield positive results. The mission of the MackIda LoVeal & Trip Mentoring Outreach (MLT) Center is to provide a safe, culturally sensitive, inclusive environment, to offer alternatives to drugs and crimes, increase high school graduations, bridge the gap between community providers, resources, and residents, to insure families have equitable access to healthy nutrient density food, and offer various community activities, to empower inner city youth/ young adults with knowledge, confidence, etiquette, leadership skills, self-reliance skills, and the necessary decision making skills to make better life choices. Giving them a vision to see past present circumstances and reach for a more positive future. Contributing to a greater Indianapolis community by renewing and restoring hope.
