Gun violence is a major public health issue and a leading cause of premature death in the United States.
In December 2023, the Marion County Public Health Department hosted a call to action featuring local experts, which helped kickstart a community-wide effort to strengthen gun violence prevention and reduction efforts, particularly for youth and young adults, who are most at risk to die by homicide.
This Directory is one part of a three-part initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in and around Indianapolis by creating connections between Providers and Youth-Serving Organizations who service these five categories:
All providers/services advertised on this site are available at no cost, low cost, or on a sliding scale to members of our community.
MCPHD has developed a virtual database for each part of the initiative — Providers, Community, and Youth — to provide direct, accessible resources for the community.
Mission
This Directory was created for providers to receive referrals and to use as a reference when referring parents, caretakers, and youth to essential services that address their needs. It aims to simplify the process of connecting families with support for therapy and counseling, healthcare, family support, and gun violence prevention and reduction services. These wraparound services promote stability and enhance the overall quality of life for youth and their families.
Vision
Our vision is to create a connected and empowered community where every family has access to vital resources and support services. We aim to create an inclusive platform that streamlines the process for parents, caretakers, and youth in finding essential services, promoting mental health, well-being, and resilience. By bridging gaps and facilitating connections among providers, we envision a future where all individuals can thrive and lead fulfilling lives, free from the impacts of gun violence.
