Over the past several months, the Marion County Public Health Department team has hosted a series of interactive workshops, with the focus centered on discussions surrounding various methods of reducing gun violence. These meetings feature both youth and local provider participants conducting strategic marketing sessions with interactive exercises to further explore approaches to youth gun violence prevention, intervention, and reduction. Other activities include an opportunity to present their own unique creative works themed around gun violence prevention – culminating in an art gallery display.

The fourth workshop in an ongoing series will be hosted by the Marion County Public Health Department team in November. Click here to learn more!

11/7 – Youth Gun Violence Reduction Marketing Workshop & Logo Competition

The final Youth Gun Violence Reduction workshop occurred on November 7th at Martin University.

This workshop featured an in-depth presentation of the current status of the Community Resource Directory, designed to connect parents, caretakers, and youth with essential support services, including mental health and healthcare resources, mentoring programs, conflict resolution, and engaging activities such as sports, STEM programs, and the arts. This directory was designed to promote stability and enhance the overall quality of life for our community.

The winner of the Youth Logo Art Competition for the “Disarm Hate, Arm Love” initiative was also announced. The winner, Heather Stutz, was selected for her artwork “Blooming Bullets” by a panel of judges and presented with a $500 cash prize. This logo will be used on the Disarm Hate, Arm Love website where the powerful and creative works of young artists focused on themes of gun violence prevention and reduction will be showcased.

The Marion County Public Health Department also reviewed the Health First Indiana funding opportunity with a Q&A session. Applications for this grant close on 11/18/24, and can be accessed here

All youth-serving organizations, families, and youth were invited to attend this workshop.
